The OEKO-TEX® standards are regularly updated to stay ahead of global regulations, incorporate new scientific health data and the latest production methods. Every January, OEKO-TEX® publishes annual updates to the standards as well as the test criteria and limit values – in line with consistent consumer protection and the sustainability of textiles and leather products.

Annual Updates

Following a transition period, all new regulations go into effect April 1.

Highlights:

  • Recycled materials certified to STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®
  • New hangtag for MADE IN GREEN by OEKO-TEX®

These new regulations are effective September 30, 2021.

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®:

  • Glutaraldehyde included in the limit catalogs under "Other residue chemicals" with a limit value 1000 mg/kg for all product classes

LEATHER STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®:

  • Medium-chain chlorinated kerosenes (MCCP, C14-C17), previously under observation, included under "Chlorinated kerosenes" with a limit value of 1000 mg/kg for all product classes
  • Glutaraldehyde included in the limit catalogs under "Other residue chemicals" with limit value of 1000 mg/kg for all product classes

STeP by OEKO-TEX®:

  • Glutaraldehyde included in the STeP/ DETOX TO ZERO by OEKO-TEX® list of chemicals under subgroup 14 "Other substances" and the footnote: "Use accepted for leather tanning"

ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX®:

  • Glutaraldehyde included under "Other residue chemicals" with threshold value of 1000 mg/kg for all product classes and the footnote: "Threshold does not apply to tanning and fixing agents"
