Everyone wants textiles that stay fresh.

Plus, smelly clothes and textiles end up in landfills. True sustainability requires life cycle analysis and there's no one-size-fits-all odor management technology.

Sweat is necessary.

Sweating during certain activities or in hot weather is important because it releases excess heat and regulates body temperature, reducing health risks.

Hohenstein optimizes odor management for any textile product that comes into contact with the body (sports and outdoor apparel, workwear, furnishings and bedding, etc). We help manufacturers and designers optimize product performance so that they transport sweat away from the body while reducing sweat odor.

Odor Management - Testing & Development

As sweat is diffused through the textile, odor is affected by the interaction of bacteria, fluid transport, and the adherence and release of odor molecules.

To optimize odor management, we assess the textile's release of sweat odor, the capability of textile materials to bind sweat molecules or the antibacterial effect of textile-finishing. The customized test procedures determine the reduction characteristics for sweat odor:

  1. How well - or poorly - do odor-producing dermal germs multiply on the textile?
  2. What percentage of sweat odor molecules adhere to the textile?
  3. How strongly does the textile actually smell of sweat? This is determined through practical experiments in which test samples are worn by test subjects or an artificial sweat odor simulate is applied. Our trained odor testers then evaluate the intensity of the sweat odor.

The Hohenstein Quality Label

Awarded to products that have successfully passed practical assessment and test subject experiments to prove sweat odor reduction.
