PPE Category II (Other)
Personal protective equipment that cannot be classified as either category I or category III (such as high-visibility clothing or safety gloves that protect against mechanical risks).

Textile materials used in personal protective equipment (PPE) are subject to the strictest requirements. A neutrally tested and certified product is the prerequisite for winning in this fiercely contested market.
We certify your products according to Regulation (EU) 2016/425 on personal protective equipment, which clearly defines requirements for production and supply in the European Economic Area. We have tested and certified everything from turnout gear to heat, cold, high-visibility and weatherproof clothing as well as PPE and gloves for liquid chemicals or electrostatics, cut protection and welding.
The EU regulation distinguishes between three categories:
PPE Category I (Minor Risks)
Personal protective equipment for which the user can assess effectiveness against minor risks and that the effects of which, when they are gradual, can be perceived by the user in time and without danger (e.g. protective clothing for protection against rain or gloves for gardening tasks).
PPE Category III (High/Fatal Risks)
Personal protective equipment that is intended to protect against fatal dangers or serious and irreversible damage to health and where the user itself cannot identify the immediate effect of the danger in enough time (e.g. turnout gear or protective gloves for fire fighters).
EU Certifications for PPE:
EU Type-Examination (Certificate)
An EU type-examination certificate is issued by a notified body (Hohenstein) if the product is subject to the EU harmonization legislation and an EU type-examination is provided as a conformity assessment procedure (for PPE Cat. II and III).
PPE Product Certificate
A product certificate is issued by a certification center (Hohenstein) if the product is subject to the EU harmonization legislation and no EU type-examination is provided as a conformity assessment procedure (for PPE Cat. I).
Non-Regulatory Confirmation
The confirmation is issued for products that are not subject to any EU regulation or directive.
HuPF Assessment (Products) and HuPF Certificate (Materials/Previous Products)
The HuPF (German abbreviation for “Manufacturing and Testing Description for a Universal Fire-Resistant Clothing”) is a manufacturing standard for protective clothing used by firefighters and is valid for the fire service in Germany. The basis for requesting a HuPF assessment Part 1 or 4 for a product is a type-examination certificate in connection with the fulfillment of the requirements of EN 469. The same applies for HuPF Part 2 or 3, for which the requirements of EN ISO 11612 must be fulfilled.
The certification body provides information such as:
- Information about the certification schemes, including evaluation procedures, rules and procedures for granting, for maintaining, for extending or reducing the scope of, for suspending, for withdrawing or for refusing certification
- General information about fees
- A description of the rights and duties of applicants and clients, including requirements, restrictions or limitations on the use of the certification body's name and certification mark and on the ways of referring to the certification granted
- Information about procedures for handling complaints and appeals
Note: The certification body obtains no financial support (DIN EN ISO/IEC 17065:2013-01, clause 4.6 b).
